| What I can I say? Sailboats are great big toys. They are
homes, race machines, a lifestyle. Browse through the list of sailboats that I have
owned, own and lust for.
My first real boat was Destiny - I bought it simply because of its beauty
- 31 feet of cold-mold western red cedar under varnish. It had been
sitting around for several years and was in major need of tender loving
care.
It was pretty clear that Destiny would never leave the Puget Sound and
my aspirations lay in the ocean and beyond. An ocean-worthy vessel
was necessary for the next step. I found a Sceptre 41 for sail in Seattle
for an unusually low price. Well it turns out it had been salvaged several
years back and was in want of nearly everything. Do you notice a pattern
building here. These boats were as much projects as they were
sailboats. We sailed in two major ocean races: VicMaui, finishing
last and Transpac, finishing first with the Sceptre 41, renamed
"Hurricane".
The current boat "Delphinus" - a Catana 471 was the result
of an unfortunate accident in Tahiti.
