Hawaii Return 98

Hurricane's reports delivered by:SailMail Pictures from the return trip

This is the story of the return of S/V Hurricane from Hawaii to Seattle following the Vic-Maui 1998 race. Hurricane arrived in Hawaii July 11 finishing last and receiving the "Turtle" award. Despite this we did not place last and beat out some very capable boats including a 85 foot luxury yacht Sir Martian, a brand new Sage 43 Hull 16, and the Cal-40 Kismet that won the last Vic-Maui race on 96.

Shortly after arriving in Maui we were joined by two cruising friend Mike and Brenda Rzonca for a week of messing around in Hawaii. They were to help deliver Hurricane to my jumping off point, Kauai, where I was to pick up the return crew. The Rzonca's sailed with me to Ali Wai Harbor at the edge of WaiKiKi. We played on Oahu for a couple of days until they had to return home.

I hung out in WaiKiKi for a couple of days with my brother-in-law, Brad for a couple of days doing repairs and watching the local wild life while we waited for the arrival of the return crew: Tim Flanagan, Alex Weinert, Matt Squire,Brad McNeill, See "Dont Be Fooled" for a humor profile of the crew.

The log entries were writen by myself and crew, So read on and have fun.
